NFL Admits To Missing 7 Penalty Calls Against The Detroit Lions

While President Obama, every “new” Detroit Lions fan, and Cowboys hater is crying over spilled milk…I am in the process of working on my “Why You Love To Hate The Dallas Cowboys” blog post but I had to make sure I let my readers know that a report has come out that says the Cowboys submitted 10 questionable officiating decisions to the league and the NFL has admitted the officials failed to flag the Lions SEVEN TIMES! SEVEN TIMES!

Texas based Fort Worth Telegram reporter, Clarence Williams Jr., only provided two specific examples. The first, a missed hands to the face call that knocked OL Jeremy Parnell’s helmet off and, a far more relevant one had the game not ended in Dallas’ favor….a missed defensive holding committed by Lions safety James Ihedgho (did I spell that right?) on Dallas TE Jason Witten on 3rd & 8 with 6:44 remaining in the 4th quarter. This play took place right before the 4th & 6 play where the NFL told the Lions they missed a offensive hold against a Cowboys OL on Detroit’s tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Will The Cowboys Win on Thanksgving?

Eagles (8-3) have only beaten the Cowboys (8-3) once in the past 2 seasons. That is my storyline when I begin to debate rather the Cowboys will win on Thanksgiving Day. The sole win was a 2 point victory to backup QB Kyle Orton. That loss was a big loss because it knocked the Cowboys out of playoff contention, BUT. It’s still just one win. It seems the Cowboys scout team have the Eagles figured out.

However, both teams will enter into Thursday’s game not looking like the same teams that faced off last December. The Eagles have no Desean Jackson, no Nick Foles (out with injury), Mark Sanchez will get the start, and they’ve added special teams firecracker Darren Sproles. The Cowboys…well the running game is beyond better than then, Tony Romo is healthy, the OL is giving him time to sit in the pocket and think about what he’s having for dinner, and the most shocking of all…the defense is playing waaaaay beyond expectations. Ranked 17th compared to dead last when the season ended last year.

The key to winning this game for the Cowboys is simple…. Run the ball well. And give our defense less time on the field by keeping the up-tempo Eagles offense off the field. When the Cowboys defense is on the field for longer than 30 minutes in a game the Cowboys lose. The only exception was Sunday versus the Giants whose time of possession was greater than The Cowboys at 45 minutes but thanks to great play by Romo down the stretch they pulled it off. The Cowboys defense was on the field for a season-high 74 plays Sunday night and it showed as they looked gassed near the end. The Eagles average 72.7 plays a game. The Cowboys defense has only been on the field for an average of 60.5 plays per game.

This is what I’m telling myself (and you) to convince that the Cowboys will win…..

The Eagles are ranked really low (30th I think) in passing yards per attempt defense, while the Cowboys are #2 in passing yards per attempt offense. The Eagles are -8 in turnovers with 27 turnovers and 19 takeaways. The Cowboys are -1 with 19 turnovers and 18 takeaways. I would be doing you an injustice if I didn’t mentioned that Mark Sanchez has turned the ball over this year 8 times in his 4 starts. Romo…6 times in 10 starts. DeMarcco Murray is averaging about 5 yards per carry… the Eagles are giving up an average of 3.9 yards per rushing attempt. Houston averages 3.9 given up per rushing attempt and Seattle averages 3.5 rushing yards given up per attempt. How did they do against the Cowboys?

My only concern going into this game for the Cowboys is that although they are undefeated on the road….they are 3-3 at home. They have to show and show whose house it is. Represent the Star and send the Eagles home with their wings tucked between their legs.

Derrick "The Glass" Rose

Call him Derrick "The Glass" Rose!

If I turn on my TV and here that Derrick Rose has another injury...I'm going to...well I don't know what I'm going to do but I'm not even a Bulls fan and I'm frustrated! So I can only imagine how Bulls fans are feeling today. Ugh!

Rose, who has not started and finished two consecutive games this season, left the game Tuesday night versus the Denver Nuggets with an injury after playing a full 10 minutes.  Rose was 1-for-4 from the field for two points in 10 minutes, but was not aggressive when he was on the floor.

The Bulls listed the injury as left hamstring tightness, but Rose said after the game his hamstring was fine and he did not have a setback. He was "just trying to be smart" given his recent injury history.

Rose just returned to the floor this Monday night versus the Utah Jazz after missing the previous four games due to the same injury. He scored 18 points in 25 minutes.

Rose has missed eight games already this season, four others because of sprained ankles.

NBA All-Star Ballot Will Include All Players

The NBA is expanding the All-Star ballot to include all players, and pushing back the start of voting so fans can really ponder their decisions

Voting for the  All-Star game which will be held Feb. 15 game in New York, will begin Dec. 11 and conclude at the end of the day Jan. 19

The ballot on NBA.com will for the first time feature every player in the league. It use to only included 60 players per conference who had been selected by a media panel. I think this gives underrated players a chance to shine instead of the same players being considered every year!

Fans will continue to vote as usual for three frontcourt players and two guards to start for each conference. 
 
 President of basketball operations Rod Thorn said Thursday "Our choice to include all NBA players is both a tribute to their skills and achievements, and another way to engage our fans in the full experience of NBA All-Star by giving them every option."

 I agree.  

Ravens Cut Ray Rice: Too Late!

I woke up this morning to a very disturbing video. I thought I was having a nightmare (Ok..that was a tad bit dramatic but…whatever). It showed Ravens running back Ray Rice “Mayweathering” his now-wife (then fiancé). I watched it several times. Each time getting more and more upset at the leniency Rice had been granted. (And then I got selfish…Upset at the fact that I had to drop Josh Gordon from my fantasy team because he is suspended for the YEAR for smoking marijuana and here this woman beating scumbag is with a 2 game suspension. *I digress*).

It was 40 years ago today that Hank Aaron did what most thought was impossible. On April 8, 1974, the Atlanta Brave hit home run number 715.

On that day he broke Babe Ruth's total home run record -- something few thought could ever be done.

It was an incredible accomplishment made even more incredible because it happened in the shadow of hate and death threats. Those threats came from people who did not want an African-American to claim such an important record.

NFL Playoffs: How Girls Will Make Their Picks This Weekend!

 

A woman’s insight on sports is not always taken seriously and rightfully so (for the most part). There are women out here, like me, who genuinely love the game of football or sports in general and can hold an in depth convo about it with any guy. And theeen there are the women who are just acting like they are into the game because they are trying to impress a guy. I’ve decided to make my picks for the Divisional rounds using my “girl that really doesn’t like football but will go to the watch party because there are going to be guys there” perspective.

PATRIOTS V BRONCOS

Ok so I really don’t like Brady’s attitude sometime. He seems like he’d be more of a diva than me. Hogging the bathroom and taking up my space in the closet. Ugh! Any man like that CANNOT be a good football right? However, ya’ll know I like my men rough around the edges and that Brady dude has 2 babies out of wedlock by 2 different women...that tells me he likes to take risk! I like that. So I’m kinda leaning toward him. BUT that other dude...Eli’s brother. Yea he just seems so cool out there. Like he won’t let anything rattle him and i need that in my life because my ex-boyfriend is cray cray and I need a change! Plus I like the way he runs on the field real slow, kinda like a fast walk with short steps.  And his little head is  so adorable lol. The Broncos uniforms are orange which is my favorite color and that guy Champ Bailey looks like my brother. Yea I’ve made up my mind. I’m going with the Broncos.

49ERS V SEAHAWKS

Oooooooohweeee everytime I see Kapernickle play I start hummmming and thinking things I have no business thinking! Who can focus on tackling when you are looking at all of that in the picture to your left?!!  As I mentioned before I like my men rough around the edges but Kapernickle is rough around the edges, on the inside, in the middle, at the corners..all that. I need at least 2 more weeks of him in my life and if they lose then there won’t be any more coverage on him and I will have to resort to Googling his name just to see his face! I know Seattle is the better team (that’s what my boss says..he’s a huge fan) but they don’t really have any eye candy on their team. I mean the cuter guys usually win these things right? I don’t know. I do like dreads and it seems like half the Seahawks have dreads in their head. Takes me back to my roots! Plus that Lynch guy eats Skittles which is my favorite snack. I’m really torn on this one. Hmmmm.....well, since I don’t even know what a  49er is.....I’ll roll with the birds. The Seahawks.

The goal is clear: Keeping Manning off the field. The Chargers are the only team to hold Peyton's Broncos to under 400 yards -- and they did it twice this season.

The Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers split their series this season. As a matter of fact, the only three teams the Broncos lost to this season are the three teams left in the AFC playoffs—the Chargers, Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots! *the plot thickens*

In the Chargers' Week 15 win over the Broncos, San Diego's defense limited Manning to seven yards per attempt and picked him off once, but it was their offense—led by rookie receiver Keenan Allen (2 TD’s) and running back Ryan Mathews (127 yards and a TD)—that made the biggest difference. However, Mathews may not be available for this one.
Look for Manning to shake the playoff ghost that haunts him of not getting it done in the post season. He has too many weapons for the Chargers defense to match up with, and he's not going to lose to a team that handed him his last loss.

It’s clear, based on the rankings above that this will not be a offensive game. With the exception of the run game, both these teams fall no better than 24th on the offensive side of the ball. So that means one thing…we will get a dose of a 10-9 score game. Which was the score when they met in Week 10.

That Panthers victory at San Francisco featured the fewest combined yards (401) of any NFL game this season and one of just eight games that had only one touchdown scored between the two teams. The primary difference between then and now is that 49ers have Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Aldon Smith at full capacity.

This is probably the most evenly matched match up of the weekend.

The 49ers and Panthers will have to rely upon their defenses. For San Francisco, it's a great front seven with one of the best linebacker corps in the league and in Carolina, it's the best young linebacker in the NFL (Luke Kuechly) with a great defensive line in front of him.

Both defenses are going to have their hands full with both 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and Panthers QB Cam Newton as they can win on the ground and through the air. This season, Newton has been the better player, but Kaepernick has the better surrounding cast.

The 49ers haven't lost with Michael Crabtree on the field this season

 Past meets present when the Indianapolis Colts (11-5) face the New England Patriots (12-4) for what feels like the umpteenth time in the past 10 years. Only this time, instead of Manning it's Luck who will be trying to knock Patriots quarterback Tom Brady out of the playoffs at home.

Both Luck and Brady are missing a lot of their supporting talent this weekend, with Luck without receiver Reggie Wayne and Brady without Wes Welker, and both his prime tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

Long story short, Luck can't afford to turn the ball over three times in New England. The Pats have forced 170 turnovers over the past five years, the most in the NFL. The last thing the Colts want to do is give Tom Brady short fields -- or get behind 38-10.

Last week, the Colts gave up  44 points. What if the Chiefs hadn't lost Jamal Charles, Brandon Flowers, Don Avery..and more? This would be a different write up.  Indy's defense must stop the run, as the Pats have run the football 77 times over their past two games. Unfortunately, this isn't the Colts strength, as evidenced above by their No. 26 ranking in run defense. Oh, well. …better Luck next year J

I’m not big on stats because if there is even a 1% percent chance that something can happen then it may happen…BUT here's a stat to believe in...teams that lost a regular season game by 27+ points and played that same team on the road in the postseason are 2-9. The Seahawks’ handed the Saints a 34-7 beat down in Week 13. The Seahawks have won five consecutive postseason home games -- tied for the longest active streak (tied with the Saints!).

However, this game won’t be like the Week 13 game. This game will be more balanced and a game of strength versus strength.. The Seahawks “Legion of Boom” versus the Saints explosive offensive attack.

Where the Seahawks win this game, however, is by rattling Saints quarterback Drew Brees as they did in their last matchup, when they racked up six QB hits and a sack.

The Seahawks have allowed 13 points per game at home this season, the best in the NFL. That includes just seven points from the Saints in Week 13. Can New Orleans do better this time around? I say YES! This could be the upset of the week. I wouldn’t be surprised. However, the Seahawks still have more talent and depth than the New Orleans Saints. So while it will be a closer game, Seattle still wins. (and I will probably make sure all my Saints fan friends know about it via Facebook :-) )

Who is the most feared player in the NFL?

ESPN.com's NFL Nation anonymous survey asked more than 320 players "Who is the most feared player in the NFL?"

The results are in:

Voted at the top for obviously different reasons, one has the reputation as the dirtiest player in the league while the other is among the league's most dangerous offensive weapons… both are Detroit Lions.

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh led all players with 61 votes (19 percent), and WR Calvin Johnson followed with 58 votes. No other player received more than 30 votes, and 48 players had at least one vote.

I know you are hurting…Sean and the boyz got some injuries and that’s understood, but dang (sigh) I, I just don’t know. I feel empty, you know?

It’s not just about the Saints loss….(I had that down as a “L” anyway). It’s about me feeling I’m the only one that sees it! The only one that gets it. I feel I should be there with you during this time to talk to you and give you the information I think can help our relationship work..but you won’t tweet me back.
I just want it to go back to the way it was when we were riding high and it seemed like nothing could stop us.

It’s like everybody loves us together as a couple but we have sooooooo many haters that don’t want to see our relationship work out. I will never give them the luxury. I will always be here for you. Ride or die remember?!  BUT I need a break. A two week break to be exact.

Another Heartbreaker For #CowboysNation

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant described his passion as "all positive" after his sidleine confrontations with Romo and Witten during Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Bryant offered no apologies, saying his intense passion is critical to giving the Cowboys the best chance to win. He said he isn't concerned if the sideline outbursts look bad to outsiders. And I agree.

Maybe some people would prefer he just sits on the bench and stews or stands on the sideline in silence. Then again, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning don't act that way when they think their team is in the process of blowing a game they should win. So what’s the big deal? I’ll leave you to speculate on that one..I’ll keep my opinion on that to myself. Whatever the reason, pictures and, highlights and instant reactions on what Dez did on the sidelines yesterday will dominate media and fan conversation over the next few days.One sideline scene the cameras COINCIDENTLY didn't catch came after one of the Bryant-screams-at-Romo sessions. The Cowboys took the field and scored on three plays, the big one a 60-yard touchdown to Terrance Williams. Bryant wasn't targeted once on the series.

And guess what he did…he went and gave Romo a hug. But you won’t hear much about that.

Dez has called it his “passion” not his “anger” that he was expressing on the sidelines. And I accept that explanation. Hell he is the only one I’ve seen show some passion on the offensive side of the ball. Even the coaches looked monotone at times when they should be ripping someone a new one. I’m speaking about the offensive group..I know our defense has passion (they may be lacking in other areas but passion is not one).

What Dez Really Said On The Sidelines!

 

Ok I don’t really know what was said…Only the people involved know exactly what Bryant was screaming about (and I felt for the WR coach..he looked like he wanted to get away). Anyway.. I’m going to say that the conversation went something like this “Man, the defense is setting us up to win and we can’t move the ball! They aren’t even respecting my craft…they got one dude on me but ya’ll won’t throw me the ball. It just makes sense (starts using his hands) they can’t hold me! did you not see what happened when I got the ball? I want to win….we aren’t gonna win with these calls ya’ll calling. We have like 60 rushing yards! That’s crazy! They don’t trust YOU…and it’s affecting me. ” Romo whispers “I’m not making the calls” as Dez walks away…Dez storms back madder than before..”Call a m’fin audible then.”

hahahahaha! Yup..that’s how it went!

Sorry Texas A&M, I'll Be Rooting for Alabama

Well I’m not really rooting for Alabama more than I am rooting against Texas A&M. Well technically, I’m not rooting against A&M, I’m rooting against Johnny Manziel Yea! That sounds better. I not going for Alabama…I just don’t want Johnny to win. My good ole Aggie friends will say that I am “hating” but I’m really not. . I can’t cheer for Alabama because as a Texan that could be treason lol. BUT thanks to the on- and off-field antics by Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, I just might find myself saying "Roll Tide." #Ewww 

This is what I call the “Lebron Effect”. Remember how so many people (not me) hated Lebron after he took his talents to South Beach?  That was not really for what he did, but for HOW he did it. He was seen as arrogant, selfish, “cocky”, and all the other synonyms in that cluster. He was the most hated person in sports just for how people perceived his attitude because most people want to see pride lose to humility. Which is why so many people were cheering for the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Not because they liked them but because they disliked the Heat. Same thought process goes for my attitude towards Manziel. Everything he has done and said since the Heisman Trophy has affirmed Manziel's belief that he cannot be touched, that he is bigger than the university he represents, that he is even above NCAA rules. I’m not saying Alabama is a humble bunch but I’m paying attention to what’s in the news and it’s not them taunting their opponent mocking something just got a get out of jail free card for. After everything Manziel has gone through the last few weeks –– you'd think maybe just a smidge of humility might have been in order. 

I’m also not saying I think a loss to Alabama tomorrow will humble old Johnny Football. It may bring him down a notch. Down to the notch that says you aren’t guaranteed anything. Your attitude determines your altitude. You better ask T.O and Ochocinco.

Why Do People Love To Hate LeBron James?

That is my million dollar question. LeBron is a young, fun, loving, ‘kid at heart” kind of guy who if people really knew the real him and not the him the media has built…it would be hard to hate such a person. He’s even humble..yes I said humble! I can say that because I had the luxury of hanging out with LeBron at one of his birthday parties and he was everything I stated above and more. One thing is for sure tho ..before LeBron James even steps on the floor to play Game 7 tonight it's clear that he has already lost. More specifically, he has lost the right to lose.

Game 3: What They Need To Do..

WHAT THEY NEED TO DO:

SPURS:
Not turn it over 17 times.  Tim Duncan and Tony Parker CAN NOT have the shooting percentage they had in game 2 and expect to win another game in this series. Manu Ginobili. Well… he hasn’t played well for weeks now and was out of control with the ball in Game 2. In Game 2, the Spurs' big three (which is really a big 2 and ¾) shot 10-of-33 from the field. This means that it’s going to take another boost from their supporting cast to beat the Heat 3 more times. Hopefully this boost won’t be squandered as it was in Game 2. Danny Green had an amazing game…that went to waste. "We have three at home, so we're excited about that," Spurs  Tim Duncan said. "But if we play like we did (Sunday), that's not going to matter". Couldn't have said it better Timmy!

HEAT:
Chris Bosh needs to show up to the Game in his Big Man suit. Wade needs to play like he’s the second best player on the team (or as close as possible to it) and Lebron needs to play like the MVP. Not saying that he has played poorly, but he usually exerts his will on his opponents and that hasn't been happening.I hate to put this on Lebron..but his status as MVP and his salary says I have to. In the two games against San Antonio, he's averaging 17.5. That's not very Lebronish.me-time games and a Thanksgiving duel with the Raiders assures the nation we'll see plenty of the Cowboys next season. The opener against the Giants is a pace-setter, and we'll quickly find out if Tony Romo is able to earn his money with an October run against the Broncos, Redskins and Eagles. That’s just how the Heat series’ have gone. Win..lose…win…lose. Plus they are one of the best home teams in the league. Darn..but Miami is the best road team in the league *throws hands in the hair*. I’m sticking with the Spurs! Final answer.

TEXAS 2 Step: Why Miami Heat Will Lose Finals To This Texas Team Too

 

For the third straight year, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat have made their way to the NBA Finals. And for the second time out of those three trips they are facing a team from TEXAS. The (My) Dallas Mavericks took the Heat down in 6 games to go on to win the teams first championship in 2011 (only to be completely blown up by Mark Cuban and a failure ever since) and now they face a Spurs’ team who are models of consistency and fundamentals for one of the NBA’s most clean cut organiztions.

For the first time since 2007, it’s the San Antonio Spurs representing the Western Conference in the championship round, with the same BIG THREE that won a title six years ago and heard plenty of whispers since then that they were too old to do it again.

But guess what! They are still winning. Not are they winning, but they are about to break the hearts of a would-be attempt at greatness. They did it to the Los Angeles Lakers in the mid-2000s, and they did it to the Phoenix Suns (all because Steve Nash broke his nose)….and they did it to James in the Finals in 2007, when he was with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The BIG THREE THEORY:

The Spurs are led by Tim Duncan (37), Tony Parker (31) and Manu Ginobli (35). The Heat are led by the best player in the NBA, LeBron James (28), and his two high-priced sidekicks, Dwayne Wade (31) and Chris Bosh (29).

Popovich won the rights to Duncan in the 1997 lottery, and he discovered Ginobili with the No. 57 pick in 1999 and Parker at No. 28 two years later. On the other hand, viewed as a forgery on the traditional means of team-building, Pat Riley, saved up his money and went and got LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade in Miami as free agents. The built team versus the “bought” team.
The Big Threes of the Heat and Spurs are separated by age and culture. Miami's three are peaking, while San Antonio's, according to some, are hanging on. But if these Finals turn out to be memorable, it will happen because the two trios are so evenly matched. For ever advantage that the Heat has…the Spurs has one. But something will have to give. Only one team can win
The outcome of these NBA Finals will give me waaaaay more to blog about if the Heat lose because LeBron and the Heat remain so much more fascinating in failure than with a championship. But if the Heat win they will have reached the back-to-back feat by knocking off the toughest foe possible.

Picture this: a second consecutive NBA championship, a third consecutive visit to the NBA Finals, a fourth MVP trophy. His leap into an altitude inhabited only by players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain and, of course, Michael Jordan.

And all King’ James has to do is beat the San Antonio Spurs.

It sounds so simple right? I’m not so sure. We shall see, starting tonight.

42 Jackie Robinson: From NLB to MLB

Finally, we get to see the story of Jackie Robinson in a motion picture as "42" is released in theaters today. I am going to go see the movie and you should too (don't waste your time going to see Scary Movie 5 instead!). I hope the directors give the story the life that it needs.  By displaying his life inside AND outside of baseball because It is no exaggeration to say Jackie Robinson made his mark on history. And he did it the way Gandhi did, and the way Martin Luther King would — by simply being better than the people who hated him.

Major League Baseball will celebrate the 66th Jackie Robinson Day on April 15th.  (the day he broke baseball’s color barrier.) Players, managers, coaches and umpires will wear No. 42…. but I wonder if they all really know and understand the significance and history of where that moment began or if they are just doing what is required of them from the league. That prompted me to dig through some boxes and find a program and book I had gotten when I visited the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City Missouri…..and I decided to provide you all with some history on how Jackie Robinson found his way from the Negro Leagues to the MLB.
