First Lady in the Lone Star State

First lady Michelle Obama has made the fight against childhood obesity the central focus of her time in the White House. She brings her “Let’s Move” initiative to North Texas this week as part of a nationwide tour to celebrate the movement’s second anniversary and to raise further awareness about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for children.

Obama will first hold a roundtable dinner discussion at an Olive Garden restaurant in Fort Worth on Thursday with parents who are changing habits in their homes and communities.

On Friday, the first lady will join Dallas Cowboys players and former Top Chef contestants at southeast Dallas Elementary School to celebrate the Dallas school district’s commitment to creating a healthier atmosphere for its students. The visit, which will feature a cooking competition involving both chefs and students, will also encourage increased collaboration between restaurant chefs and school cafeterias.
